In a video shared on Truth Social on Monday, one of the leading contenders for the 2024 Republican Party (GOP) nomination, Donald Trump, paid tribute to the lives lost and the first responders who rushed to the World Trade Center towers during the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001.
Approximately six hours before President Joe Biden was scheduled to deliver live remarks — at 4:45pm (EDT) — on the 22nd anniversary of 9/11, Trump stated, “Those who experienced the horror of the September 11 terrorist attacks can never erase the pain and anguish of that fateful day.”
Biden, for his part, also posted remarks about the worst foreign attack on US soil this century on Twitter. “What remains constant, and will always remain constant, is the character of our nation”, the head of state said.
Trump Remarks on 9/11
He continued, “We must remember the 2,977 precious souls who were ruthlessly taken from us on that tragic morning 22 years ago. Their absence has left an irreplaceable void that cannot be filled, regardless of the circumstances.”
Trump expressed his empathy for the families left behind, saying, “We will offer our prayers for each of these grieving families, whose suffering is truly beyond our comprehension.”
He also extended his gratitude to the firefighters, the New York Police Department, the dedicated police departments, including those in Virginia, DC, and the Pentagon, the military service members and other first responders nationwide that were involved 22 years ago. Trump praised their courage and their willingness to travel great distances to respond to the acts of terror, including the World Trade Center site, the Pentagon, and Pennsylvania.
Trump concluded by saying, “We will never forget you. We cherish you, and may God bless the families of these heroes.”
Biden’s Comments on Twitter
Before his televised address this evening, President Biden offered his reflections on the 2,977 the 9/11 anniversary via Twitter, stating, “Today, we remember the 2,977 precious lives stolen from us on 9/11 and reflect on all that was lost in the flames and ashes of that September morning.”
He continued, “The course of the American narrative itself was altered on this day 22 years ago. However, what remains constant, and will always remain constant, is the character of our nation.”
Biden emphasized that September 11 is not only a day for remembrance but also a day for renewal and determination for every American, highlighting their commitment to the nation’s principles and democracy. He said, “It is a day when we recommit ourselves to our nation, its fundamental values, and to the preservation of our democracy.”
He concluded by emphasizing the responsibility they owe to each other and to future generations of Americans, stating, “This is the debt we owe, not only to one another but also to the generations of Americans who will follow.”

The North Tower of the World Trade Center, was hit on 9/11, at 8:46am Eastern Daylight Time. The South Tower was then hit by the second airplane at 9:03am EDT.
Both towers had collapsed by 10:28am.
