Rubens Ometto built one of the largest private groups in Brazil through Cosan. The holding company’s businesses include Raízen, one of the country’s five largest companies by revenues, the result of a joint venture with Shell in ethanol and bioenergy; Compass Gás e Energia; Moove, a lubricants company; and Rumo, Latin America’s largest independent railway logistics operator. Ometto is the controlling shareholder of publicly traded Cosan, as well as of Raízen and Rumo. In 2022, Cosan Group posted net revenues of R$162.2 billion (US$32.757 billion) and a net profit of R$1.17 billion (US$236.2 million). The company recently bought a 4.9% stake in mining company Vale. Ometto succeeded in appointing Cosan’s CEO, Luis Henrique Guimarães, to Vale’s board, thus increasing his influence in the company.
