Pope Francis is celebrating his first ten years of papacy in 2023. Since his election on March 13, 2013, the first Latin American pope has spared no effort in fostering greater interreligious dialogue while making austerity a kind of cult. Francis also showed signs of greater openness by acknowledging that sometimes a couple’s divorce can be less harmful than constant fights or by remarking that homosexuality is not a crime. Earlier this year, Francis announced the appointment of 21 new cardinals, five of whom are Latin American.
