John Rodgerson is CEO and one of the founders of Azul Linhas Aéreas. He worked on the original business plan for the creation of the company and was also director of financial planning and analysis at JetBlue Airways. He has been in Brazil for 15 years, playing a leading role in the rise of Azul, which has been gaining space in the hotly contested Brazilian airline market. The company went from about 120 destinations in 2019 (pre-Covid) to more than 150 today, focusing mainly on regional routes, where overlap with competitors is null or almost nonexistent - a strategy pointed out as the company’s great differential by aviation industry analysts. He actively participated in the expansion of Azul’s landing and take-off slots at Congonhas airport, the most profitable airport in the country. Rodgerson led the company’s financial recovery during the pandemic, when revenues from the slots virtually disappeared. Recently, the company raised some US$800 million in the market to strengthen capital and liquidity.
