After a career in public service, the economist has forged a career in the private sector over the past 30 years. He founded Aklara, a pioneer in electronic auctions, in 2001, and the Arbitration Center of Mexico in 1997. In addition, he provides advice on foreign trade matters through the consulting firm SAI. He is chairman of the board of directors of BBVA Mexico, the largest bank in the country, and is a member of the boards of directors of Grupo Modelo, Tenaris and Vitro, among others.
