Mexico’s richest man is facing a complex year after the collapse of a section of Metro Line 12 in Mexico City structured by his construction arm, Carso Infraestructura y Construcción (CICSA). Slim, whose fortune is estimated to be around US$56.5 billion, made a commitment to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to repair, free of charge, the collapsed section in which 26 people died. Through América Móvil, his telecommunications company, the magnate reiterated the economic strength of the company in the region by doubling its profits to the second quarter of 2021. In this same sector, he still faces obstacles with the local regulator as a preponderant figure against other competitors. The company has hope, as it has for the last 10 years, that in 2021 it will finally be granted the license to provide pay TV services, according to its son-in-law and CEO, Daniel Hajj.
