After breaking the R$22 floor in March last year, São Martinho’s shares (R$4.3 billion in revenue in 2021) have recovered by more than 70% as of this month. The Ometto family has shareholding control of the sugar and alcohol conglomerate. The resilience of Venturelli, who has presided over the group since 2007, will pay off after the pandemic: high oil prices make ethanol producers more competitive and analysts are betting that São Martinho will be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the reopening, that will increase the demand for food and biofuels.
