Rafael Mariano Grossi is, since December 2019, the General Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). A diplomat with more than 35 years of career and specialized in non-proliferation and disarmament, Grossi has a vast experience in the field of international relations and foreign policy. Before becoming Director General of the IAEA, Grossi held various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina and, among other milestones, chaired the Diplomatic Conference of the Convention on Nuclear Safety, as part of the international efforts following the Fukushima nuclear accident in 2011.
