Before the explosion of Peso Pluma and Fuerza Regida on the global music charts, Nathanael Rubén Cano Monge, better known as Natanel Cano, has been one of the pillars of the Corridos Tumbados music genre -a movement that brings together hip-hop beats, rap, singing and other urban embellishments accompanied with regional instruments such as the bajo quinto and bajo sexto- that has positioned itself among listeners. The Hermosillo, Sonora-born singer-songwriter has 27 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Musicians such as Bad Bunny and Alejandro Fernández have covered his songs. Although the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador has criticized the musical genre, Natanael Cano revealed that the president sought him out to ask him how much he charged and he said he would sing for free.
