Juan graduated in business administrator from the Universidad EAFIT in Medellín, Colombia, and Master in business administration from Babson College in the U.S. In the midst of high interest rates, economic slowdown and double-digit inflation in Colombia, Bancolombia, the bank of which he is CEO, decided to reduce rates on credit cards and some loans. During this year it also repurchased US$467 million in bonds maturing in 2025.
