Décio da Silva has been chairman of the board of directors of WEG since 2009. Son of founder Eggon João da Silva, the businessman was CEO of WEG for 18 years, from 1989 to 2007, and previously held various positions in the company. WEG, one of Brazil’s leading industrial companies, specializes in the manufacture and sale of electric motors, transformers and generators. In 2022, the company reported revenues of 29.9 billion reais (US$6.15 billion), more than half (50.3%) from sales outside Brazil. It has factories in 12 countries and branches in 38 nations. In 2023, the company announced an investment of 100 million reais (US$20.5 million) for the construction of a new battery and electronic management systems factory, aimed at meeting the growing demand for electric mobility. The company also signed an agreement with General Motors (GM) to develop electric car battery recharging technologies.
