Bloomberg Línea — The investment firm Daemon Investments, co-founded by Brazilian Sergio Rhein Schirato and managing US$6 billion in assets, has appointed an American, Shane Haas, formerly of AlphaLab Modulus, as its new Chief Investment Officer (CIO).
Haas will work from the company’s US office and joins Daemon as the firm aims to expand its international presence, focusing on systematic management strategies via mathematical and quantitative models.
He replaces Paul Huchro, who had served as CIO since 2022 and is now retiring, according to a company statement accessed by Bloomberg Línea.
Founded in 2009 in Brazil, Daemon also operates in the US. A significant portion of its operations is based in Miami, catering to clients investing abroad and foreign institutional investors. The firm leverages automated systems to manage portfolios, enabling exposure to a variety of international markets.
With over 20 years of experience, Haas specializes in quantitative investment strategies. Before joining Daemon, he co-founded AlphaLab Modulus, where he structured and managed a hedge fund focused on statistical arbitrage in cryptocurrencies.
Haas has also held positions at Signition, Moon Capital, and Goldman Sachs, where he was a portfolio manager and co-head of systematic trading, according to his LinkedIn profile. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
