Ricaurte Vásquez is the manager of the Panama Canal, an important driver of the Panamanian economy and through which 3% of the world’s maritime trade transits. By 2021, the inter-oceanic waterway made direct contributions to the Panamanian treasury of $2.08 billion and surpassed the 500-million-tons PC/UMTS (Universal Measurement System for Ships) mark. The Panama Canal, with some 8,000 employees, is recognized as one of the most admired companies in the region, according to a survey conducted by Estrategia y Negocios magazine and Skaleno Advisory, as well as by the ranking of the Corporate Reputation Business Monitor (Merco), which highlighted the transparency of information, corporate governance and the success of its business strategy.
