Enrique Alba heads the private company that produces the most electricity in Mexico and is the most criticized in the sector by the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, despite having announced an investment of US$5 billion during his six-year term. Iberdrola has been accused of participating in an electricity black market through self-supply companies that incurs losses for state-owned utility CFE, which has taken away industrial clients from the Spanish firm in the north of the country, while the country’s energy regulator has denied it migrations of self-supply plants to the Wholesale Electricity Market (MEM).
