In January 2022, he celebrated seven years at the helm of the Mexican bank. That same month, after hearing the news of the sale of CitiBanamex, he was quick to raise his hand for the consumer banking unit in Mexico put up for sale by Citi, which would open up the possibility of increasing Banorte’s weight in the local financial system. He is also vice-chairman of the board of Gruma, a flour producer that has faced pressures due to the rise in corn and energy prices since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
