Bruno Riga has led Italy’s Enel Mexican operation since February 2021, in a highly complex environment for energy companies in Mexico. The company faces accusations from the government over its participation in an alleged ‘black market’ in the sale of energy to self-supply companies for US$3.4 billion. Riga must also contend with a regulator that gives preference to state-owned companies, while Enel has three renewable projects worth US$500 million in the country that have been stalled. Despite the negative environment, the company operates 19 solar and wind projects in the country, with an installed capacity of 3,000 MW.
